Leafy Greens Are Everywhere!
Hi Kids! Did you know that millions of tons of leafy greens vegetables (kale, spinach, red and green lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage) travel from the farmers' fields to millions of tables across the USA each year? We can enjoy fresh green vegetables even during the long, cold winter months. Let's follow some of the leafy green vegetables from where they are grown to your table.
DIRECTIONS: First, locate your home state on the map of the United States and put a gold star close to your hometown. Then follow the directions at the end of each statement.
A. Fresh broccoli from Arizona and California ends up in a casserole on your table. Draw red arrows from these states to your hometown.
B. Crisp lettuce from Florida, Michigan, New Mexico, California, and Arizona is served on hamburgers your family has for lunch. Draw green arrows from these states to our
hometown.
C. Spinach grown in Colorado, Texas, and California is used in a dip at your home. Draw blue arrows from these states to your hometown.
D. Kale picked in Arizona and South Carolina is eaten by your family. Draw purple arrows from these states to your hometown.
E. For you to enjoy delicious coleslaw all year round, cabbage is grown in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Texas, California, and New
York. Draw orange arrows from these states to our hometown.
